High reflector coatings can be used to efficiently move light through a system while keeping the optical layout contained to a manageable size. High reflectors come in three basic flavors. The first is an all metal coating or first surface mirror. The second is an all dielectric stack. The third is some sort of hybrid coating with both metal and dielectric layers.
Applications: LIDAR, Cameras, Laser Systems, Optical Setups, Laser Cavity Mirrors
Like the high reflector coatings, partial reflector coatings can be done with metal, dielectrics, or both. These coatings are used to reflect some fraction of the incident light and pass or absorb the rest.
Applications: Beam Splitters, Augmented Reality Lenses, Optical Setups
Gain Flattening and Spectral Matching Filters
These are both custom shaped filters. These are usually specified to OFS with either a desired spectrum for the coating, or a desired output for the system. An example might be attempting to match the output spectrum from the sun with a light bulb while considering the quantum efficiency of the camera in the system. The key to these coatings is careful communication and ensuring that the design work makes sense before moving forward.
Applications: Spectral Conversion, Spectral Flattening, Optical Setups
These filters usually require a desired spectral output along with the performance of the other elements in the system. OFS has done several of these systems, along with custom metrics to ensure that the desired performance is achieved.
Spectral matching filters also have a desired spectral performance, but it is only for the optic itself. We will supply a coating design to match the specifications given.
Applications: EMI/RFI Window, Biomedical, Displays, Camera Heater Window, Optical Setups
OFS can deposit bare ITO for static dissipation, Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI), and optical windows that do not have strict requirements on optical performance. Bare ITO is relatively robust and is usually specified with a transmission requirement and a resistivity requirement.
Index Matched ITO (IMITO) is frequently used to increase the optical performance of the ITO coated part. This can be used with a heater window to have a high transmission window with a closed loop heater package, or any application where the optic needs more transmission, but ITO is still required.
Neutral Density Coatings
Neutral density filters use a special metal blend that is spectrally neutral across a broad band. This in turn creates spectrally flat coatings with a specified amount of transmittance. This can range from an optical density of 0.04 to 4. In general OFS specifies a target wavelength and a target transmittance.
Applications: Signal Reduction, Optical Setups, Laser Safety
Due in most part to the success of our ITO, OFS has an excellent solderable gold coating. OFS has a few unique steps to ensure adhesion, and the result is a solderable gold coating which has extremely good adhesion and conductivity.
